Is there a way to be notified when you have a new MAC address in the arp cache? I have a remote router, usually a 1720 or a small 2600 router with no managed switches. If I had a managed switch, I would look for a link up trap. I need to know when a new device connects to the network.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge it's not possible to see a new device comes up , unless you have a manageable switch. Otherwise you have to manually login in to your computer and see the Arp cache.

I believe that ARPWATCH will do that. It is a little unix/linux utility that listens in to ARP traffic and parses/reports on what it sees.
Dave (who's been looking for a Windows port of ARPWATCH for some time now, anybody know of such a beast ?)
