When i log into our 2600,

i get the error

% No authentication server running

and the ONLY spot i've found out about this error, is

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps607/prod_release_note09186a00800d9df6.html

which of course is a switch, and not really relavent imho

why is there no mention of this error for a 2600?

please help me get into lvl 15 :)

thx

I would run the password recovery procedure (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_password_recovery09186a0080094675.shtml) and see what your config looks like (look for aaa commands- eg aaa new-model - and see if login local is enabled etc). Were you able to get into the router before?

Hope it helps.

Steve

thx steve, i knew that the password reset thing might work from the reference in the switch doc ;)

its only such a pain to do it, and it requires restarting the router which i'll only be able to do off-hours (ie, more unpaid overtime 4 me :( ;)

thx tho,

john

does anyone else know what causes this error?

how do i turn on the authentication server specifically?

(i know i can boot into lvl 15 mode with esc and serial)...

but i dont want to loose my whole configuration,

which command do i use to turn on the authentication server for enable?
