No Network or Application layer info in nGenius RTM 1.4

Clean install of RTM on a new W2K server.

nGenius Server - Switch tab, Device - Add Switch from menu.

Add my 6513 switch ( which has a NAM in slot 07 )

Task Progress reports Success

Adding Switch:6513 reports

Adding 6513 - All OK

Adding NAM - All OK

Message Log

Learned Device - NAM

Added Switch - 6513

6513 appears in the Switch view as Active

Select 6513, and goto Spanning

Add a physical port to span list

Analyser Port = 07/01 ( correct for NAM )

Launch nGenius Traffic Monitor - Switch tab

Expand All Switches - All Switch Ports

The port I spanned shows as;

ccosch-a2-1-108 --> NAM

Right-Click spanned port, select Launch Default Viewer

Data Link Layer - OK

Network Layer - No Data

Application Layer - No Data

Can anyone please help me out here. I have no idea what I have done wrong / ommitted, even after wading through all the documentation I can find ( not huge ammounts ) about this.

Cheers

Are you saying that the Network/Application menus are grayed out OR that when you launch them, there is no data seen?. Change the refresh rate to the min 15sec as well.

The network and application options are available on the menu, presumably because the port is spanned.

The network and application graphs come up in their own windows, but have no data. The refresh rate is already 15 seconds. The DLL graph refreshes OK.

What is this NAM model and the software version running on it and on the switch?. Is RTM 1.4 SP7 patch installed?

The NAM is a WS-X6380-NAM, and the S/W is 2.1(2)

When I do a show patches, the NAM returns "No patches are installed on this system."

Where can I get the SP7 patch, and how do I apply it?

Thanks

Sorry, just read the rest of the message.

Switch is running version 6.2(3)

MSFC is running 12.1(7a)E1 ( if relevant )

NAM is running 2.1(2)

Cheers

SP7 is a recommended cumulative patch for RTM 1.4. It does not apply to NAM. You can get it from:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/rtm-14

As for the NAM, since your switch is running 6.2(3), you cannot upgrade the NAM to 3.1(1a) as it requires that the switch is running 7.3(1) or later. You may want ao at least apply the NAM patch 9.0 from:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ws-x6380-nam

Once you apply both NAM patch and SP7:

1) Delete this switch from RTM server

2) Do a set span disable on the switch CLI

3) Session into the NAM execute 'config clear'. This will clear up the RMON tables. Re-boot the NAM. Once it comes back up on-line

4) Add the switch back in RTM Server

5) Span the port again via RTM and then see if you get the NL/AL data. Make sure that the source that you're spanning has indeed some NL/AL traffic.
