I am trying to connect a 3512 XL switch via LX Gbic to a 3550-12g LX Gbic port. The 3550 is not set as a switchport but has an IP address applied and I assume should route from there as the gateway to the 3512. I am not concerned with Vlans but want the 3512 to link up and I thought out of the box the 3512 should at least link through the fiber to the 3550. I didn't think I needed to set up trunking. I just want a simple GIG connection to the 3550-12g. Can someone point me in a direction on the 3512 config? Thanks

Hello,
if you do not need to trunk VLANs over the Gigabit interface of your 3512XL, I would configure it as a switchport as well:
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
switchport mode access
Can you check if this config allows connectivity to the 3550 ?
Regards,
Georg

That was simple enough. Thanks Georg! Consoled in and up and running. Thanks again.
