Power Consumption for IE4000 switches

Hi

Our project has an application that sees the IE4000 switch mounted inside an IP55 vented (not actively cooled) cabinet with the accompanying 170 W PSU. The switch is 48V DC fed, and is used to power remote IP telephony, WLAN and IP CCTV, with 8-ports of PoE+ potentially required. Our calculations are:

IE4000 Power Consumption             Worst Case 42 Watts

Power Supply efficiency                  Worst Case 90% for maximum PSU size of 280 Watts is 28 Watts heat dissipation.

PoE                                                    Worst Case 2% or PoE power 30 Watts x 8 = 4.8 watts

Thus the total heat dissipation for a BoP with a PSU and supplying 8 PoE+ devices is  42+28+4.8 = 74.8

Thus the BTU at 3.41 BTU/hr per Watt = 255 BTU/hr and if the PSU is not inside the cabinet then it is 159.6 BTU/hr

Is this assumption correct? Our client has a requirement that we can provide an accurate response that clarifies how much heat dissipation is generated/occuring at the switch, when the devices it is remotely powering are drawing full power i.e 8 POE+ ports (8 x 30) + 42 watts for the IE4000 = 280 watts.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Stuart Read

I have the same question but can't get a hold of anyone at Cisco.
