Problem upgrading the CatOS on 4500 series switch ...

Hi,

I need some help to know why I keep on getting this error. This is a Catalyst 4500 switch. The switch has the IP of 10.10.10.1 and my laptop has the IP of 10.10.10.2. Both can ping each other.

[1] Then I issue the command 'copy tftp bootflash:'

and I get this error.

Console> (enable) copy tftp bootflash:

IP address or name of remote host []? 10.10.10.2

Name of file to copy from []? cat4000-k8.7-5-1

File not found.

TFTP connection fail(0).

Console> (enable)

I am using a TFPT s/w called TFTP Desktop. Its a freeware.

Would appreciate some help on this.

Most probable reason is the file name is not the same on the TFTP server or you are not on the correct directory. By default, CAT OS files on CCO have a .bin extension. Try using cat4000-k8.7-5-1.bin for file name unless you renamed it on your tftp server

Also, you might want to try a different TFTP server such as TFTPd32

On a side note, any particular reason to upgrade to 7.5(1)? All trains in 7.x but for 7.6(x) are closed. 7.6(6) which is the latest should be good. Check the release notes

By now you've probably got the CatOS upgraded with prkrishn's straight forward advice ;-)

I just wanted to add to the note on the CatOS/IOS trains. It's a good practice to make sure that your routers are all using the same train(versions), particularly in the case where there's a core router involved. Also keep in mind that the router memory could also present a problem with software upgrades due to memory size limitations. That's all I have ;-)
