Problems with ethernet connection on cisco 836

I've got a new cisco 836 router out of the box.

I've allready done a write erase and upgrade to a up2date IOS. But still encounter some problems.

RXD and TXD from the DSL interface are lighting like hell. (nothing wired to DSL interface and ATM is admin down)

When I connect a UTP to an ethernet connection the link is also blinking all the time.

Sometimes I can ping the adress I added to ethernet0, sometimes not or sometimes with allot of time-outs.

Should I ask for a RMA for this router or could I try still something?

hello andrew,

does the console port show you any output while this happens? Have you tried a debug for example on one of the interfaces? and what version of the ios are u using? Ill be glad to hear from you.
