Hi,
I have some flash modules in my testlab, that are flaged read only? Is it real or can I change some bits to mark it read/write? One of these modules in combination with an other marks it as read/write as long as it runs with the other modul... I use some 2500 routers with Flash RAM's,
The Flash RAM's are Intel E28F008SA-120
Thank you.

Hello Marcos,
With old Cisco 2500, the flash was read-only.
To upgrade IOS:
1) configure a ip default-gateway
2) save config
3) copy tftp flash etc...
4) The router check that it can reach the new IOS
5) The router will re-boot with only basic IP reachability, no routing activ
6) After the re-boot, the flash is read/write and the IOS is copied on the flash
7) After the IOS is copied, the router will reload with the new IOS.
HTH,
Nadine.

Hi Nadine,
thank you for your help. How can I flash the IOS via the console cable? I have some routers with only Token Ring...

Try this:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_tech_note09186a008015bfac.shtml
Start the download and go to lunch... it takes a few minutes.

Remember, I suggested that after you start the xmodem download, you go to lunch...
... have a few beers...
... watch a baseball game...
Come back and your router is loaded!
