Is there any benefit for a switch to be reload via the reload command verses a reload via a power cycle?

In essence its the same thing. Maybe reload is better, potentially prevents power spikes to the device that can occur when power cycling.

Here's a difference ...
You might find out that your Supervisor goes into ROMMON mode *only* after a power outage. Software reloads work fine. We've just discovered that to be a problem on several older Sup2/MSFC2's and we had same/similar issue with a CAT4000. On the C6500 during boot you see a reference to corrupted NVRAM.
I haven't received a technical explanation yet but we suspect its a battery issue.
Are you up on your ROMMON recovery procedures? :)
