router memory usage

What is the best way to see if your router is low on memory? I currently try to use the "sho proc" command but the output is pretty hard to decipher. Is there a simpler way of doing this?

Try 'show memory free':

That command is definitely easier to understand but I am still confused. I know for a fact that this particular router has 64MB. When I do the above command it seems to show that processor memory is 33MB total and 25MB free and IO mem is 9MB todal and 7.5MB free. 33 +9 = 42. Where is the other 64-42= 22MB?

Hi

IOS joins parts of free memory into pools.

You can see this pools when you type

'sh mem'.

But the memory used for other purposes also.

For example it used for ios data and code storage.

Try 'sh regio' command.

You will see all memory allocation.

Use the command " show memory summary" it will show you the processor and the I/O memory..looks for the lowest and free memory and that will tell you the free memory available on the router and lowest point the router has reached since its been up and running...also you might need to look at the largest memory available as its important to have a large block available if you need to enable features like "ip cef".
