Router SN through Telnet

Is there a way to get the serial # of a 2600 or 1700 router without actually going to the box?

You have to physically goto the box.

There is no way to obtain this info without going to the box. As a suggestion, you might want to consider making the serial number part of the router's configuration (perhaps a loopback interface with the serial number in the interface's description).
