RSPAN: Does an intermediate switch (e.g. 3524 XL) have to support RSPAN?

Hello,

I need to configure rspan. The source and destination switches are 2950s. The intermediate switch is 3524XL. Can this work? In general, how the rspan works from the MAC/forwarding point of view? Does something have to be explicitely configured in the intermediate switch?

Regards,

Yuly

Correct all switches must support RSPAN to implement RSPAN

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2950/12119ea1/2950scg/swspan.htm#1073772

The RSPAN functionality works exactly as a regular SPAN session. The traffic monitored by SPAN, instead of being directly copied to the destination port, is flooded into a special RSPAN VLAN. The destination port can then be located anywhere in this RSPAN VLAN.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/41.html#topic4-2

Does the learning have to be disabled on RSPAN VLAN in every switch, including intermediate? In this case, what configuration is needed for an intermediate switch (or otherwise how does it know to distinguish between regular VLANs and RSPAN VLAN)?

Yuly
