I'm just starting to use the CiscoWorks products, especially the LMS product. Can someone tell me what exactly a "Seed Device" is? Why is this needed to make the LMS product discover other devices.
Thanks for any help.
Jeff

Essentially Campus Managers (ANI) discovery sends Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) requests to the seed device to learn its neighbors' tables (through CDP). Each neighbor is then queried for its neighbors until all devices have been discovered.

Seed device(s) is the starting point from where the discovery will start and is used by Campus Manager in doing the network discovery. CDP is used as the discovery protocol. See this Campus Manager tutorial which will help you understand this better: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/wr2k/cpmn/prodlit/index.shtml
