Hi ,
We would like to see the serial number of C2600XM via Ciscoworks .Through Ciscoworks also we are only getting processor board id hence we want to know whether after configuring snmp-server chassis-id command in the router config Ciscoworks will show the exact external serial number of C2600XM router or not .If yes then what will be the nessasary configuration required on router as well as Ciscoworks server.
Regards
Amit.

Once you enter the correct serial number via chassis-id command, you should see it in CW2K

Hi ,
Thanks for the reply but our main concern is our customer is having almost 200 Cisco 2600XM routers installed in his network distributed in different locations of India .Hence it is not possible for the customer to physicaly go there and check the serial number and put it into snmp-server chassis id command .Hence can someone tell me whether we can see the serial number of Cisco 2600xm routers with any show commands or Ciscoworks without making config changes .
Regards
Amit .

We've gone through this with 1000+ hotels in the US. Unless something has changed recently you can't do it. We ended up calling each site and talking someone through finding the SN, then entering into the Chassis-ID field in the config. Of course every time a new router gets installed someone has to remember to set the chassis-id. Of course no one ever remembers. :-)
FYI, you can get this from a 4500 switch with show idprom chassis or a 6500 switch with show idprom backplane. I don't think they'll work on a 2600 but you can give it a shot.

Hi
We used to configure the chassis-id field, but found that if it is left blank (no snmp-server chassis-id)and you then run a CW HW or SW report the correct serial number will be populated.
We have lots of 2651XM's and this works okay.
Hope that helps.

Carolyn
