Spanning Tree Root timing Parameter Problem

Hi,

I have the Problem that every Time I change the timing Parameters like hello-time, forward-time or max-age on my Spanning Tree Root Switch. They don't changed on the other switches. I use one 2950 as Root, whis is connectet to a 2924XL thus is connected to a 1924XL.

It looks like this:

2950 => 2924XL => 1924XL

As a change the Root Role to the 2924XL the Problem is the same.

Does anyone have suggustions to this Problem? Can it be a Spanning Tree Mode Problem?

All other works very well, Ports go in blocking state, go to forwarding state, the Root ID is transmitted correctly and chages the Root Roles change, but no timing Parameters...

Regards

Marcos

You need to distinguish between the "Configured" times given in line 3 of show spanning-tree, and the actual times in use at the moment, shown in the second line of the "Times:" section.

The first is the timers that would be used if this switch were the root. The second is the timers currently in use from the actual root.

If this explanation doesn't fit, could you post your show spanning-tree ?

Hi Here is the Show Sapnning Tree:

switch-2924XL#sh spanning-tree

Spanning tree 1 is executing the IEEE compatible Spanning Tree protocol

Bridge Identifier has priority 32768, address 0002.4b41.a700

Configured hello time 2, max age 20, forward delay 15

Current root has priority 24577, address 000d.bce2.df40

Root port is 1, cost of root path is 12

Topology change flag not set, detected flag not set, changes 1

Times: hold 1, topology change 35, notification 2

*** hello 2, max age 12, forward delay 9 ***

Timers: hello 0, topology change 0, notification 0

Does the line marked marked with "***" mean, that the Switch had learned the Timers from the Root?

The output from the 2924 is not so clear as it would be from the 2950.

That is exactly so: the line you marked **** shows the parameters actually in use. The "configured" line is only relevant if this switch becomes root.

Hi Kevin,

thank you! This clears the confusion in my mind ;-)
