ive read that ospf routers in an area should agree to some parameters such as area type, etc. to achieve adjacency.
Is it possible for an area to have 1 router configured as totaly stubby and the rest as stub.
The reason iam asking this is i have this network having this kind of configuration and they are facing some problem.
Isnt this configuration violating any ospf rule?

Hello,
all routers in the same area must be of the same area type, the reason being that e.g. stub areas and totally stubbt areas send different kinds of LSAs. It could explain the problems you have.

The totally stubby feature is configured using the "area x stub no-summary". This only needs to be configured on the ABR. The internal Area routers will be configured the same way whether you configured them for stubby or totally subby.

in that case, will the stub routers not go and search time to time the type 3 lsa packets which is denied on the ABR? Am viewing it as if this is the cause of congestion..

Since the ABR is configured to treat the area as a totally stubby area, it won't be sending the types 3's into the area. Thus, there won't be any type 3's for the routers in the area to search. A router can't "search" the database on another router, it simply accepts what that other router transmits.
