Hello all,
Its my first time posting on these forumns. I am in need of some help. Here is my problem. I have 2 gbic interfaces on 2 5500 catalyst switches. I can't seem to get one of the gbic's to link with another gbit. here is the output when I do a "sh port 3" on the main switch.
NetworkCat> (enable) sh port 3
Port Name Status Vlan Level Duplex Speed Type
----- ------------------ ---------- ---------- ------ ------ ----- ------------
3/1 5500 trunk 1 connected trunk normal full 1000 1000BaseSX
3/2 5500 trunk 2 notconnect 3 normal full 1000 Unknown GBIC
3/3 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/4 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/5 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/6 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/7 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/8 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
3/9 notconnect 1 normal full 1000 No Connector
Port 3/2 is the one in question. The "Unknown GBIC" is throwing me and i can't find much help on ciscos site. Also here is a "sh ver" on the switch as well.

(Note: Please keep in mine that i have not been on a Cisco switch in over 1 1/2 years so i am a bit rusty. I also inherited this from the last sysadmin so i am trying to clean up some problems)
Thank you.

Cisco doesn't support non OEM gbics if it is not a cisco gbic and this may be what you are seeing . Also make sure you are using the same type on each end Sx/SX or LX to LX .
