T1 WAN hardware/configuration

We're looking at getting a T1 line between our home site and our remote site. What hardware would I need on both ends of it? Also, the home site has an internet connection that will serve as the connection for both sites. How would I need to layout the network in order to accomplish this?

You have two options, either to buy used routers, or to buy new ones.

Selection of hardware - You can use a router + external CSU, or a router with inbuilt csu.

You could use a router such as 1600 or 1700. with WIC-1DSU-T1 cards on them. Those have an inbuilt CSU/DSU.

You can enable static routing on either routers. Put a default route on the remote site to send all traffic destined to internet, to the home router.

Also put Access lists to protect your home and remote network from the internet.

How to layout the network depends on the current layout, and on what you want. Do you have a firewall between your internet router and your LAN, or does the internet router itself function as firewall? Can the internet router be re-used for this connection (i.e. does it have a free slot?)

Do you want to firewall the traffic between the sites?

Supposing you have a firewall behind your internet router and you do not want to firewall traffic between the sites, just place a new router (1600 or 1700 as suggested in another post) behind the firewall, same model at the remote site, and do static routing.
