Hello,

which platform, and which CatOS/IOS version are you getting those errors on ?

One possible cause for rxTotalDrops could be that spanning tree is blocking VLAN(s) on that port, which is part of the normal operation.

Check this info from CCO, not sure if that applies to you:

The show counters command output shows what errors are occurring. If the only error counter reporting errors is rxTotalDrops, the most likely cause is that the drops that are occurring are Color Blocking Logic (CBL) drops, which are expected if spanning tree is blocking for a VLAN on that port. CBL drops are packets received on a trunk for a VLAN that is blocked on that trunk. For example, broadcast, mulitcast, or unknown unicast might still be received on a blocked port.

The workaround is to disable the ERRORDETECTION PORTCOUNTERS. This can be done by issuing the set errordetection portcounters disable command.

HTH,

I see this information, but I like have more details... Is possible ?

Hello,

here is some more info:

rxTotalDrops - This counter includes a sum of the following counters:

The number of bad packets because of a CRC error.

A coding violation or sequence error.

The number of Color Blocking Logic (CBL) blocking drops.

The number of instances of invalid encapsulation.

The number of broadcast suppression drops.

The number of drops because the packet length is less than 64 or greater than 1518 bytes.

CBL refers to the spanning-tree state of a particular VLAN (color) on the port in question. If the port is in a spanning-tree blocking state for a particular VLAN, it is normal to drop packets received on that port for that VLAN.

Wich port(s) are you getting these errors on ?
