Hello,

I am trying to translate VLAN-x to VLAN-y on the same switch 3550 physically by uplinking two ports from the same switch :

interface GigabitEthernet0/7

switchport mode access y

duplex full

speed 100

!

interface GigabitEthernet0/8

switchport access vlan x

switchport mode access

duplex full

speed 100

I would like to understand :

- if such configuration work ?

- Impact of such configuration ?

- How to verify it is working properly ?

Yeah it should work but I don't understand why you would want to do such a thing. If you want the traffic from one vlan to enter another vlan then just make one vlan. The impact would be you just made a larger vlan and your probably making the switch scream WHY ME. The one way to verify if it is working is to have two machines one on each vlan on the same subnet. Try to ping one another without the cable in, this should not work. Then put the cable in and do the ping again, that should work.
