Anybody else seen differences between trunking between 2 catos boxes and say a catos to a 2950 ? In order to get 2 catos boxes to trunk you must have the same vtp domain name even in transparent mode whereas a catos to IOS box it doesn't seem to matter in transparent mode , they don't have to match to come up. What is the normal practice that everyone uses when creating trunks between these type boxes . Wish they would keep things the same between different platforms.

Hi,
AFAIK if you configure trunk ports to "nonegotiate", they shouldn't care about VTP at all, no matter IOS/CatOS.
There should also be a difference between VTP ver 1 and ver 2 behaviour in transparent mode:
"...transparent mode no longer checks domain name. This enables support of more than one domain across a transparent domain."
(See http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/473/103.html#vlan_trunking_protocol)
But I don't know any difference between IOS and CatOS VTP behaviour.

Milan

Thanks Milan that explains what I am seeing then about the domain name . I think we are running vtp ver 1 on the cAtos boxes . Learn something new everyday here . :-)
