I am unable to establish ISL trunking between Cisco CAT5500 (SW: 3.1(1) and any of the Cisco 2916M-XL switches (IOS Release: 11.2(8.10)SA6). I have established trunking between the CAT5500 and multiple other Cisco 2924's and another CAT5505.
I have to turn trunking off on the CAT5500 to regain control of the 2916.
Do you think it is a limitation of the 2916 switch?

Hello,
can you check the amount of memory in your switch ? Do a 'show version':
cisco WS-C2916M-XL (PowerPC403GA) processor (revision 0x11) with
4096K/640K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID 0x06, with hardware revision 0x00
Processor is running Enterprise Edition Software
Cluster member switch capable
16 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
32K bytes of flash-simulated non-volatile configuration memory.
If you see the same as above:
4096K/640K bytes of memory
that means your 2916 won't do trunking, it appears to be a hardware limitation of the 4MB switches.

Thanks, that appears to be the issue.
I have 4096/640 bytes of memory.
Do you know if any issues with me upgrading the memory?
Thanks for the response,
Regards

Hi,
2900 XL with 4 MB supports trunking only with these modules.
WS-X2914-XL-V, WS-X2922-XL-V, WS-X2924-XL-V, WS-X2931-XL, or WS-X2932-XL..
If you can get any of these you can set up a trunk with 5K otherwise it will not work.

Hi, Is it possible for an end-user to upgrade the internal memory or is it a box swap?
Do I have any other options?
Regards,
Steve
