understanding ifindex

I am wondering whether one can find the physical switch port from the ifindex values. Thanks.

For switched running CatOS, you can use the command 'show port ifindex' which will list the mod/port with the corresponding ifIndex. For IOS devices, you'll have to poll the ifIndex itself and then correlate it with ifDescr for the same.
