You should not have to upgrade the boot rom. You will probably have to upgrade your flash and or ram depending on the IOS and features you are requiring. The easiest way to figure out what flash and ram you will need is to go to the Cisco website and look up the IOS on thier software center page. http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/
