Upgrading flash

I am trying to upgrade the flash to ver. 12 (file name: c2500-8-l.120-5.T2.bin) on Cisco 2501. After typing "config-reg 0x2101" and "reload", the router came back with the prompt as

hostname(boot)>

Then, after typing "copy tftp flash", I got the following screen:

hostname(boot)#copy tftp flash

Flash: invalid chip id 0x9105

unable to configure flash for erase or write.

Why don't you try upgrading the flash without changing the config reg.

Just boot the router normally, make sure you have a path to the TFTP server, and then type copy tftp flash. The router will then take you into the flah loader routine, and the router will do the rest if you enter the proper ip address of the tftp server, and the path and filename. The router will the reboot, erase the flash, and load the new IOS.

Not sure what the errors you are getting mean. I've seen post about problems with AMD flash used wiht older boot roms, which appears to be what you are having. Did you recently add a flash card?

I still got the same error message as above after typing "copy tftp flash".

I did not add a flash card. I just want to upgrade the IOS to ver. 12.

Do you have any other suggestions?
