URGENT-- NEED HELP CIsco 1720 with cable modem

I connect cisco 1720 router to my cable modem (motorolla), but the network kinda dies. I mean if I connect a Linksys router in place of cisco 1720, the network works fine, i get all the bandwith but with Cisco network becomes really slow. Is their anything i need to do on my cisco router to work with my cable modem or this is not gonna work'
