I wonder if anyone can help me with this issue. I am testing PoE splitters with 3750 switches. I have a device which does not support PoE and the splitter enables me to take power from the switch. Only it dosn't. I am using a sparklan E-100 splitter which claims to conform to the IEEE standard. When attached there is no response from the switch at all.

Hi, I just looked this splitter up. I have never used it, but it does look interesting. Are you granting that switchport poe?

Yes, a very interesting product indeed. As for it not working, you might need to have something connected to its ethernet dongle before the switch will recognize a link and start supplying power.

Thanks guys. I have tested the ports are working by plugging in Cisco AP1020 which work fine. I have also tried attaching the unit (its a tv set top box)to a power souce to try and kick start some POE but to no avail.

It transpires that the E-100 is not compliant as the web page states. There's a POE-100 that is compliant and that's the one I should be testing. I'll leave a post to let you know if it works - if anyone's interested!

what are you trying to power and what voltage and current do you need. If your device will work at 18VDC and 350 ma you can try the PD-AS-601/18 that is 802.3af compatible and was described in thw white papaer below as
The PowerDsine PD-AS-601/18 Active Splitter (18 Volts) can be used with the Cisco Aironet AIR-PWRINJ-BLR2T (12 to 40 VDC) transportation power injector to power the Cisco Aironet 1300 series access point or bridge from a non-Cisco IEEE 802.3af power source
