When you enable RIP on a router all interfaces are enabled regardles of networkstatment or due to network statment????

Ex if you have one int on 10.0.0.0 and one on 172.16.0.0 with a networkstatment of 10.0.0.0

Will the 172.16.0.0 interface form RIP adjency so that you have to use like passive-interface so that rip doesnt send on that interface.

Hello,

the network statement enables RIP on the interfaces that match the network you advertise. So if you advertise 10.0.0.0, only the interfaces that are configured with an IP address from that address space are enabled for RIP and send out RIP updates. In your example, the interface with an IP address from address space 172.16.0.0 will not be enabled for RIP when you just advertise 10.0.0.0, hence there is no need to use the ´passive-interface.

You can verify which interfaces are sending (and receiving) RIP updates with the command ´show ip prot´.
