hi,
1) The branch router(3640) is connected to the central hub via 2 64Kbps leased lines and ISDN's as back up now we have introduced a third back up ie. a VSAT. I would like to know how i can integrate a VSAT link seamlessly with my branch router. we're using rip on this router. i have a few queries:
a) We are using a cross cable to connect the VSAT IDU to the eth3/0 of the router, the LAN gets connected on eth3/1. we have done this so that the users on the LAN would not have to change the default gateway everytime they lose the primary link connectivity.
b) we're experiencing issues with the VOIP application after the VSAT implementation.
I have attached the config file as an attachment.
Any help would be highly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Regards,

Hi
R u using VSAT only for VOIP between ur locations or with data too ?
if thts the case(with data too) then u r VOIP will def suffer becoz of round trip delay in VSAT networks which will come around 700 to 800 ms .
Normal recommended max delay would be 150ms (by cisco) but tried in vsat network with less success.
btw whts the type of vsat connecitivity ur using is that a TDMA or PAMA ??hope if its PAMA which is point to point i think u will somewht better than other types becoz u will 2hops (one to hub and back to ur remote location) in other vsat types..
u wont get the exact quality which ur getting with ur LL but still u can improve a little with some QOS techniques thru VSAT too but not equivalent to LL quality..

Hi,
I wish to use the VSAT only for data not for VOIP, secondly we're using a ku band vsat where in the round trip delay is 800-900 ms. This i know would not work with the VOIP application. The issue faced by me is to provide a seamless connectivity through the VSAT(data only)
Thanks,

You are doing NAT on your VSAT connection. This can degrade voice quality. Does it require NAT? If not have you tested without NAT?

Can't you use third static floating route pointing to VSAT with higher administrative distance?
