What is write command ?

Hi, 

Is "write" command equivalent to copy running-config startup-config.

Yes.  More specifically, "write memory" is, but "memory" is the default option.

Philip already answered, but I thought I would add the write command is the (very) old way of doing the newer copy running...

The write command appears to have been kept as long as it has, because it's so "popular", but some platforms no longer support it (Nexus comes to mind).
