I have a 2900 XL 24 port switch running 12.0(5.1)XP
I cant remember the enale password so tried the recovery process as per -
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps607/prod_password_recoveries_list.html
However when I type "Dir Flash" I get a message "unable to stat flash Permission denied"
Can anyone help ?
Thanks.

dont use the dir flash.
just run the following:
1) flash_init
2) load_helper
3) rename flash:config.text flash:config.old
4) boot
this should boot you up to a blank configuration prompting you to go into setup mode. say no,
5) get into enable mode
6) rename flash:config.old flash:config.text
7) copy start to run, then change the password and save;
reboot if needed just to assure all comes up as you expect from the start.

Thanks for your quick reply
However when I type "rename flash" etc it says
"Rename: file exists"
This still now boots up to a password prompt
However if I do "Dir Flash" I now get the following
switch: dir flash:
Directory of flash:/
2 -rwx 108
3 -rwx 1557594
4 drwx 14080
226 -rwx 108
227 -rwx 660
228 -rwx 4317
229 -rwx 25
230 -rwx 1347
1305600 bytes available (2307072 bytes used)
switch:
thanks again for your help

oh...you already have a config.old so you must delete this first or just rename config.text to config.ORG or something like that.
once you do this, you can do the boot sequence etc. i've shown above.
