This may belong on another form, but since it is ISDN with compression it is in the ballpark.
I have an AIM-COMPR4 card in AIM slot 0 on a 3660 to support compression on ISDN dial backup. I enter the line 'compress stac caim 0' in the dialer definition, but a display of compression says it is enabled as software, not hardware. In the 'sho diag 0' output, the AIM card is present? Am I missing something?

Try using the same command unde the physical interface (bri or pri) rather then udner the dialer interface. After the see what "sh compress" reports.

The IOS duplicates the command in the serial interface automatically when it is defined in the dialer interface. I tried the command on only the serial interface (ISDN PRI) as well as only on the dialer with the same results. It always comes up as software, which would indicate there is no card, but there is and it is visible in the diag 0 display. I have tried 122-13b anf 122-7a code levels, no difference.

The compression is negotiated between the end points in my experience.
This means that it will show as software compression until it sees the remote router and negotiates the hardware, Usually when the dial in occurrs the compression will change to hardware after a couple of seconds. If this does not happen try checking the config etc of the remote router.
