I upgrade the C3548-XL with the IOS 120-5.WC3b. The Router doesnt know the Fast Ethernet anymore. Although it knows the Giagabit Ethernet! The bizarre thing about this is if I make a show version it shows me the 48 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s) and 2 Gigabit Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s) but not when I do a show running-config. When it starts up a lot of error comes saying FOUND an unknown transceiver on port ..
Did anyone make the same experience?
thanks andrea

Hi,
what is the "show start" output?
It looks like your startup config might be damaged.
What is the "show flash" output?
Have the upgrade process passed correctly without any problem?
Was it done via CLI or CMS (VSM)?

Milan

hi milan
the startup-config shows the fastethernet port .
with the sh flash conmmand it shows the right ios version but not a ...diag.... file. do you know what I mean with the ...diag...
sh flash:
I have :
c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC3b.bin
and on another switch which works i have:
c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC3b.bin
c3500XL-diag-mz-120-5.3.WC.1
can that be the problem?
the upgrade was done via CLI
ciao andrea

Hi Andrea,
you don't need a diag file at all. If there is a diag file on your switch it's just left as a remain of Cisco factory testing and you can delete it.
Have you followed all steps of the CLI upgrade procedure
correctly? Havent't you missed any step?
What is the complete sh flash output?
And complete sh ver output?
What is the output of sh post?

Milan

It's really strange.
I see two suspicious lines in the output:
a) C3500XL POST: Configuring Switch Parameters: Passed Error.
b) mac-address-table aging-time 0
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
So it seems to me there might be a damaged startup config in your switch.
If there is mac-address-table aging-time 0 - this might make the switch totally confused.
I would try to clear the startup config (wr erase) and reload the switch again.
Maybe this helps.

Milan

Hi Milan
Many thanks for your help.
That with the config was a good think. But even that didn' t bring the
result which I hoped.
I'm going to send the switch to cisco.
Ciao

Hi Andrea,
before sending the switch to Cisco I would try to either downgrade it back to previous IOS version or upgrade it to the latest IOS (there is 12.0.5.WC7 available on CCO).
Sending the device to Cisco is always the last step.
Another idea: Have you checked the boot variables (sh boot)?

Hello Milan,
I have same issue with a customer switch, where mac-addressing aging-time is 0 (zero). As I saw, this feature could be set by config. My question: How many second is the default value; means could I only set aging-time to this value, without load the whole configuration.
Thanks for help
