Currently we have a C6K with a single SFM. We have two fabric enabled modules, a 48 port 10/100/1000 and a 16pt GBIC. During testing, I was asked to pull the SFM to simulate a fabric failure. When I reinserted the SFM, the 16pt GBIC module would not come back online. It took a couple reboots of the C6K to bring the module back. It was my understanding that all C6K modules are hot-swappable. I understand pulling an active fabric is less than desirable and would not recommend doing it. However the customer wanted to verify the hot swappable capability. And now believes that the SFM is defective due to the recovery required for the 16pt GBIC module. I have been searching for documentation that would show that Cisco doesn't recommend pulling the active SFM and doing so may cause unpredictable results. Has anyone seen anything? Or is the customer correct and the SFM and 16pt GBIC should have come back online once the SFM was reinserted?
