I have point to point circuits with 1720 router as the end-point connected to a 3660. The sh cdp nei shows two routers with all info. However, due to the config on the remote site I cannot ping/telnet to the router. Is there any way to connect with another protocol? Just trying to save drive time!

Hi,
Can you SNMP get or set the device? and if you can have you got SNMP RW strings set plus configured the router to allow it to be reset via SNMP.
If so you could use SNMP to copy the config to a TFTP server, amend the config, send it back to the router and then reload the device but as mentioned you need:
a) SNMP RW access to your router
b) Router need to be configured to allow reload by SNMP
c) A server/client with SNMP get and set functionality
d) a TFTP server
If you CAN do the above have a look here:

Good luck

What about the configuration on the 1720 is preventing ping and administrative access?

I think that ip routing may not be turned on. In the cdp info unser capabilities there is nothing listed for the two roturs i cannot ping. The ones that work have an R listed.

Does the CDP info show an ip address though? If yes make sure you try telneting to it from an IP on the same subnet just in case there is no default gateway set on the device.

Sounds like it's the remote site config.
Is there an ACL restricting port 23 and ping?
