I Have created 2 VLANS in my network and i have VLAN1 default on my Cisco 6509
I created VLAN 305 (10.205.24.0/255.255.254.0)
VLAN 1 10.201.16.0/255/255.240.0
Routing Between VLANs working fine and if i use 6509 as my dhcp server for VLAN305 it works fine
But i am trying to use my existing DHCP server which is in VLAN1
i have the foling confoguration on My 6509

Ip Helper-address 10.201.16.X
i am not able to get any address for my hosts in VLAn305
if i use a static address on VLAN305 and i can ping my dhcp server in VLAN1

Do you have a new scope defined? Capture a sniffer trace of the server/client port and see where DHCP is breaking
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/100.html
Also, make sure you have portfast enabled on the endstation ports in VLAN 305.

The helper address in vlan305 should work, assuming that the address specified in the helper address is the address of the DHCP server. If the PCs in vlan305 are not getting addresses I would look toward some issue in the DHCP server. Are there logs on the server that might indicate what is going on? Does the server see the request for addresses from the clients in vlan305? Does the server have appropriate scope defined for vlan305?
