Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to solve an interesting problem. When I connect to several different cisco Routers using hyperterminal on Windows XP I get have a problem using the up key. When the up key is press I assume a series of characters is sent to the terminal because a number of lines move down and some characters are displayed. Although I cannot access the command history. This isn't a huge problem but I have searched high and low to find a solution.
I have checked the settings on the router to make sure they match that of hyperterminal. I made sure there is no flow control. The problem still happens. I can use any other keys on the keyboard without errors.
Does anyone know of a fix for this or if there is a registry key I can edit to fix this in windows?
Thanks,
Eric Madej

Yes, thats a known issue.
Try using Ctrl P (Up arrow) and Ctrl N (Down arrow)
Or else use some other freeware tools like Teraterm.

I'm surprised that no one came up with a fix for this problem. Do you know the specifics of why this happens?

Its most likely a bug in HT. Its probably not the most recent version (which has this problem fixed) that Microsoft ships on XP. What you could try is to download the most recent version of HT from Hilgraeve's website. (The current version that is on my XP laptop is 5.1 for HT). Try using HTPE from www.hilgraeve.com). I have not tried it but that might help!

Download Tera Term SSH , it works great . Have never been a problem with that and it's a great telnet and SSH client too .

I use both Tera Term and PuTTY, and both are quite nice. I actually prefer Tera Term, but there are some SSH options that it doesn't support that PuTTY does and the terminal emulation in PuTTY works much better with vi (at least under Solaris).

I use SecureCRT from VanDyke software. It supports SSH, Telnet, serial and other protocols. I like the cut and past with a single keystroks feature.
