slow initiation on a 3550 running enhanced image

I'm doing some tests on a 3550 with the enhanced image. It's doing BGP and recieving a default route. Checking the cpu shows minimal load on the switch. However, I am experiencing very slow initiation of a telnet session when I attempt to conenct to it, sometimes in excess of 30 seconds, and about 50% of the time, the session times out before it can initiate. I've gone through some of the ideas of trying to tweak the switch (eg. Running CEF), to no avail. I have even tried modifying the Switch database management templates.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try the basic troubleshooting steps.

- Review the switch configuration and interface stats and counters.

- You have low cpu load but how about the memory?

- How about cable length?

- Use another PC to access the switch via telnet.

- Use another port

- Use another cable
