Can the above module support 50/125 MMF - all of the documentation I have seen only indicates MMF and doesn't give a spec.

Yes we support 50 micron on the Catalyst 4500 100BaseFX (WS-X4148-FX-MT) line cards and here is the optical power budget on 100BaseFX line card:
Min output -19 dBm Max output -14 dBm
Typ input -34.5 dBm Max input -31.8
Max Link length supported 2Km
