Cannot get address from ISP

I have a PIX (v6.2)firewall and that has been working fine. A few day ago it is not getting an external address. I connect via DSL using pppoe. I know the dsl is up because if i bypass the PIX I can connect. I can connect briefly if I change the auth to chap then change it back pap. I get an IP address but in a few seconds it's gone. I then upgraded to a new ver 6.3.4 and now I don't even get a link light steady on e0. I do show int e0 and I get a line protocol dowm.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks,

gilbert

Sounds like duplex mode problems or cable problem.

Try to set to duplex mode on the ADSL Modem if possible. Set to auto Modem/Router - auto on PIX, or set the duplex mode to 10 half - 10half or 10 full- 10 full etc.

What PIX is it a 501 or 506 ?

example of PIX 501:

interface ethernet0 auto

interface ethernet1 100full

pix(config)# interface

Usage: interface [ [shutdown]]

[no] interface [logical|physical] [shutdown]

interface change-vlan

show interface

Thanks for the response patrick.

I have int eo on auto right now. I will try to set it maybe 10baset and see. Unfortunately I do not have access to the DSL modem. Thanks for the link.
