I have a new Laptop and it does not have a DB9 port. It only has USB ports. Does Cisco sell a USB cable or adapter that will work with the console port on the router? What are the cable specifications?

I've purchased two different usb-db9 adapters & still can't get it to work. What brand of cable/laptop do you have? Any suggestions?

I have a IBM ThinkPad T42 and bought a cheap $4 DB9-USB cable off Ebay. Plugged a null modem cable into it and works like a champ. Have used both Tera Term Pro and SecureCRT apps to console without issue.

I found a USB to Serial adapter manufatured by Belkin. Part number F5U109 Description: USB Serial Adapter for Palm & Pocket PC handhelds. They should add and Cisco to their description. I'm using it with XP Professional. The documentation states it will also work with 98,2000, 98 SE, Me, XP, and Mac OS 8.6-9x. It comes with a lifetime warranty. It also comes with a CD. For further information contact Belkin Corporation, USA Tel:310-898-1100 or search Google for "belkin serial adapter F5U109"

I had this adapter, and found out the hard way that it doesn't support the CTRL+BREAK key sequence which is used to perform a password recovery on most Cisco devices.
I searched online for an adapter that supports this and found the Keyspan USB Serial Adapter USA-19HS. I can confirm that this model of Keyspan adapter DOES support CTRL+BREAK to enter ROMMON mode.
Here is a link to the product specifications for the USA-19HS USB Serial Adapter:

I wanted to let everyone know that this model of USB Serial adapter works better than the Belkin that I had.
