I just put a new PIX 525 into use on our connection to the Internet. Our current mail server is outside of our firewall. Mail performance took a dive when the PIX went online. I figured out to turn off the smtp fixup protocol. But POP3 performance is still very slow compared to our old non-Cisco firewall. What can I do to improve this and stop the whining of my users?

Mike,
You might have hit the 'ident' protocol problem that is decribed in detail in the following url:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/110/2.html
Let us know if this is the case. I am interested in the details of this issue.

I have the same prob with Microsoft Exchange (not sure what e-mail server you are using). Anyone know why the fixup does not work with Exchange 5.5/2K?
