VSM 7.9.0 motion detection

Hello.

I have VSM 7.9.0 and cameras CIVS-IPC-6000P firmware 2.8.0-297.

I create a template with motion recording only.

In the section “Padding” I enter 10 seconds and the server should record 10 seconds before and after the event occurs, but it does not work.

The server records a few minutes before and after the motion.

I tried to enter different values, but nothing changes.

Can anyone tell how to set the recording interval before and after the motion?

Hi Stanislav,

The *event* timestamps for the alerts should reflect the Pre and Post padding you have configured.  However, due to the way that VSMS has been architected, any '5-minute block' of archive video, within which these alert timestamps occur, will be retained within VSM (They won't be groomed away).  So, if you are directly reviewing an archive stream for a camera configured this way, this video will be available for viewing.

Hi Scott.

Am I understand correctly?

If the event happens as in the picture (mot_det.png), the server will record a video 15 minutes. And no matter what I configured in section “Padding”.

Can you tell me where in the documentation I can found about 5 minute blocks?

Yes.  How you have it visually represented in the image is an accurate representation of how video archive data is actually stored by VSMS (to the best of my knowledge).  I wish I could point you to an explicit section is recent versions of the VSOM documentation that clearly outline this... but there really isn't one.  I think Cisco should really do a better job to clearly explain how video archiving, clipping, retention, and grooming actually happen within the VSM product.  Much of it is really counterintuitive.

The only way I myself have acquired this knowledge is through direct experience and other discussions on this very forum.
