VSOM 1RU maximum number of IP cameras

  Hello everybody

I need to know the maximum of IP cameras that can be supported with 1 RU VSOM, I currently have 108 IP cameras and 3 1-RU MSPs running as follows:

1 OM & MS with 35 IP cameras

1 MS with 35 IP cameras

1 MS with 38 IP cameras

the system is running with excellent performance.

I need to add extra 40 IP cameras with a new 1 RU VSMS, and I would like to know if the currently existing VSOM will support this expansion with the same performance and without any video/event loss.

please Note that there is no control room (for live monitoring) and my objective is only to archive all feeds and store them at the vsms for future reference.

actually I would like to understand the role of the VSOM rather than being the interface between the surveillance system and the system cameras and media servers. when I would like to retrieve an archived feed what will the role of VSOM. when I have monitors for live monitoring what will be the role of the VSOM.

Thank you for your help

best regards

I think this would really depend on the current performance of the VSOM server (1RU MSP with colocated VSOM / VSMS).

Have you been doing any trending on the performance of any of these servers with the MRTG charts on the VSMC status pages?  I'd say you don't actually utilize VSOM much if you are just reviewing events/archives on occassion.

This leaves most of VSOM just handling event generation and databasing from what I currently understand.

I would say so long as your servers aren't being overly taxed on CPU Load Avg, or network IO, you're probably good.

Cheers!

thank you scott. but please may you explain to me the following:

1) what is the VSOM CPU and network IO maximum values at which I should know that no more expansion is possible.

2) in case I have a user who is live monitoring one or more cameras by using his pc, what is the role of the VSOM and the VSMS?

3) in case I have a user who is retrieving archives of one or more cameras by using his pc, what is the role of the VSOM and the VSMS?

4) in case I have monitoring using monitors, what is the role of the VSOM and the VSMS?

best regards
