So I am running into this error at one of my sites when attempting to view a rotating pane view that had been setup via VSOM and Internet Explorer:
Cannot create RTSP connection to server at: <server>. Check network connection and server health status.
All Camera's work and non rotating 2x2 panes are working. The rotation come up with black screens and each screen shows the error message.
Looking through the docs it seems that this could be a problem if users are logged in via guest accounts but then none of the views should work. Anyone run into this?

Hmmm... I very vaguely recall someone, somewhere having a similar issue, but I don't recall the version.
When they error out upon rotation... what exactly *is* the error message? Is the URI being constructed with the IP address of the VSMS instance, or the hostname?

Okay, *from the viewing workstation*, can you actually resolve the hostname that is mentioned in the error?
i.e. - 'ping locvsm01'
... I know it would seem obvious that you can, but check anyway.

good catch.
cant ping loCvsm but can lovsm

This is most definitely the issue then. They may work initially as my hunch is the internal VSOM process that constructs the initial URI is *likely* performing the resolution and placing the actual VSMS IP address in the URI. My guess is it's a different process which then constructs the subsequent 'rotating stream' URIs, and *it* constructs them with the hostname of the target VSMS server.
Quick test... add a hosts file entry for the 'loCvsm' VSMS server with the proper IP and then try everything again as-is.
If it corrects it, and the rotating streams all come in, it'll be up to you to decide how to ... resolve (sorry... bad pun), the host name resolution throughout the solution, be it DNS, HOSTS entries... etc.
Cheers, and have a good weekend!

Shah,
my issue was only on rotating panes and related to the naming of the servers. locvsm was the a name of a server.
are all your cameras running the latest firmware?

I am having the same error message issue with my VSM running 7.5.2. The funny part is that on two laptops with various hardware specs, we can get this to work no problem. Internet Explorer, Chrome, and FireFox all work. SASD works.
However, on two machines that are new HP machines, where the error message shows up and nothing would work. We had to install VLC from videoLAN.org and that fixed the problem on Chrome and FireFox. We were told by a TAC engineer that this is probably ActiveX plugin related but we have yet to figure this out. Currently, on the same computer, Chrome and FireFox work, but Internet Explorer and SASD do not.
Our network uses external DNS to resolve everything so internally, DNS does not work but we are still able to get the system to work without it.
So basically, I think this has nothing to do with DNS. I think IE has a problem and that SASD rides on something that IE rides on but we have yet to figure out what that is just yet. Another option we were told to do was open a camera in IE and then go to view the feed. This should open up a prompt to install the Plugin. This was not working for us but it might work for you.
Focus on the plugin/ActiveX part, not DNS. Would tell you more if I knew more.

have you verified that your server and media server have the same dns name and or IP and can see each other?
I usually run into this when having
THISSITE1
and
VSOM is set to THISSITE01

It was a naming issue. locvsm was the server name while everything else was lovsm.
Only became an issue with the rotating panes.

Shall i rename host and domain name?
or do i have to give hostname somwhere else too?

Shah,
do you get a certificate error when you try to open in IE?
My error was related to a wrong naming convention which made the rotating panes not work in any browser.
