How do I recover passwords on router that I can't turn off or unplug?

Working on practice exam in Packet Tracer.  I'm not  sure if this is a mistake or my instructor is demented.  Any ideas.  Everything I could find involves turning off the router and recovering that way.

Thanks!

You need to reboot the router to invoke password recovery.

Your instructor is demented or drunk (or both).

What is the password type? Type 5 or Type 7?

Type 7 passwords you can hack. Type 5 or MD5 you would have to set the Config register and reboot into ROMMON. If you set a password in the running config and didn't copy run start, you could copy start run to wipe out your change.

not sure if any of those help.

That's what I thought but I figured "I don't know much, there must be another way."  Scenario came from Cisco via Networking Academy.  Must be a glitch.

Thanks!

It must have been a glitch coming from Cisco Networking Academy.  My instuctor said that shouldn't happen.  I restarted the practice exam and it was ok.

Thanks for info, just the same.
