Hi all,

I have a task on hand to locate the Cisco gears in our network (hundreds of them), got serial number but wonder if there is a smart way to find where that piece is ? rather than do "show version" on each device then look for serial number. Please teach me. Thank you very much.

Hello Duc,

Thank you for using the Cisco Small Business forums. My name is Cristian, I am an eContent developer and I am part of the Small Business Support Community.

Unfortunately I do not know of a method where you can directly find the device via serial number. I do however know that Cisco's FindIT uses Cisco's CDP protocol to discover Cisco devices in a network. You could hover over the device names with the mouse and the serial number will be displayed.

I hope you will find this answer useful, and I hope you reply back with any questions or concerns.
