Gentlemen,
I have a gigabit internet connection and I need to purchase a new Router to support both CLI and web base as well as IDS and …. Something decent and dependable, I am doing some research in this and it would be appreciated if someone can have some input or suggestion?

Hi Edward
If you don't want expend too much money and want something decent, I believe that the best chance is buy an ISR Router. You can configure an ISR for many purposes, like security, CME, and other ones depending the use that you want.
You can configure it from CLI and using SDM or CCP.
I hope this helps.
Cheers.
Jaime.

If you have a full-blown 1Gb WAN link from the provider, then the "smallest" router that can support this bandwidth would be an ASR.

No problem. Then wind down your WAN link.
Y'see, if you have a big WAN link but your router can only push a fraction of your WAN link ... You get what I'm driving at?
