Router or switch doing DHCP?

Michiel Beenen

Hello all,

We are implementing a lot of RV320/325 routers plus SG-300 switches at customers.
Usually we use 2 VLANs. the standard 1 for normal use and 1003 for guests.

Now since both can do DHCP and DNS I was wondering what you all use and what best practice would be?

Is there any benefit of putting DHCP (and/or DNS) on the switch instead of the router?

Hey

Check the forums regarding these sg switches they have some serious issues with dhcp not working right on certain versions of fw even the latest

I would look at the RV instead as your dhcp if you don't have a windows or Linux system that can do it which would be more ideal
