RV-180W Certicate Errors with URL Blocking Feature

Cisco6469

I like to use „URL Blocking“ with keywords in the firewall properties. When I activate this feauture, I get errors from the router certificate when I browsing to any site in the Internet.

Is there a way to manage this problem without using a public certificate?

RV180W-Firmware-1.0.1.9

Hi Stefan,

You can´t block https sites in your router, if you want to do that, you could use a third party software such Protect link or Opendns, however if you already rebooted your router and configured manually twice and it still not working you, can you please reach out to our Small Business Support Center and open a Service Request to address this issue? One of our Engineers may be able to work with you and diagnose the root cause. You can find the appropriate contact information for SBSC in the below link.

Good morning

Thanks for using our forum

Hi Stefan my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. In order to resolve your problem Stefan, could you provide us what certificate error do you receive? Also, can you provide us some screenshots about your firewall configuration? Also, I apologize for the issues you are having.

Thanks

Dear Johnnatan,

...the name from the website do not accord with the name on the certificate (router certificate?). The problem starts, when I browsing to a blocked keyword. The firewall is in basic configuration. I just activate "url blocking" for testing. The certificate message will then also appears on other device in the network when they browsing to unblocked sites....I have no additional Certificates installed on the router.

Thanks

Best Regards

Stefan

Hi Stefan, that  was my next question, if have you installed an additional certificate, you could do factory reset to your device (always make a backup of your data) and  manually set your configuration (if you can)

Hi Johnnatan,

could you tell me if it`s really necessary to generate and install a new self signed certificate, authorized from a public or an own CA to use this feauture? Is it not possible to block a simple static keyword or a url without this action or is it a bug?

I saw on a RV220 you make difference between http and https....but it works....?

The original router certificate is not useable because it is generated with the mac address. Every new browser hate this!

Regards

Stefan

Hi Johnnatan,

so static URL blocking or keyword blocking is not really working on this router! This was one of the reason for evaluating this product because it was on the feauture list....

Thanks for informations
